This chapter further sets the stage for Chinatsu to leave Tatara behind. The reasons are mounting (inability to tell dad about ballroom dancing, injury, chance of better dance partner for her). It's inevitable at this point

I don't think it's sad for it to foreshadow them finding new dance partners - it's obvious that the two of them enjoy different styles of dancing and they might prefer to have a partner that shares that interest. Additionally, they've only gotten to this point because they were partners for this period of time. It's nice that it's mirroring the changes and development people go through from middleschool -> highschool - > college

Well, they do say opposites attract. But I'm wondering a couple of things in particular.

1- Tatara's relationship with his family. It seems he's closed himself to them almost completely despite living with his dad and grandmother. They don't know he dances, or that he's injured, and that's partly due to him not wanting to worry them. I feel that this point would prove pivotal in Tatara's development as a character.

2- Muroi (the former bully). He's gone from openly bullying Tatara to covertly taking a picture of him and admiring him... And I'm curious where that'll take the character. I don't think they'll become friends or anything, but it does bug me.

They got talent, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got knocked out in the first round. Maybe something like how the Hyoudou pair is too far above them and they need to work even harder, or perhaps something like not even being able to reach their feet, that kind of plot

@ElBichoRaro: Has Muroi shown signs of admiring Tatara before?

@AGuyWithAPenguin: Why is the part about him not being able to tell his dad a reason for them to separate? I can see the taste difference being a factor, sure, but he was also opposed to Kugimiya’s opinion on the waltz (of the male having to take full control in the dance) but ended up changing to fit that, so I don’t think this taste difference is anything important, especially given Tatara’s limited experience.

The injury, though, is the one serious factor here, given that it may force him to take some time off for recovery. I dunno about a permanent separation, though. I can see something like what happened with Gaju and Mako at the start with them taking up new temps while separated. Otherwise, they’re the best fit for each other now as they’re both still “newbies” (Chinatsu in being the one who’s led) and it’d be odd to for them to separate so soon with the story momentum behind them.

Wonder where the author's going with Muroi, feels like it's too late in the narrative to have him start dancing too and it meaning much

Huh. Just noticed the photographer is the same guy at the end of chapter 54. He’s got a strangely fab vibe to him.

@ak2508: Maybe he’ll take up photography, eh? For real, though. After seeing the photographer guy get strangely emphasized at the end of 54, it feels like it’ll lead up to something.

"You shone so brightly when you were bullying someone"

What kind of fucked up logic is that

He better not assault Tatara or something.

@KeiosKod I was just about comment that! Also, if you add in Muroi's complaint about getting blurry pictures with his camera phone, it could be taken as a subtle hint of an underlying passion for photography that has yet to fully emerge.

I don't really think they're setting up for them splitting up, it seems like a lot of the last arc has been about how to connect and dance with people who are very different from you. I do want to see how Latin goes down with them since chinatsu apparently really likes it

You're always the best danceguy!! Thank you for the translation of this beautiful chapter!!

I love how Tatara looks at Chinatsu when she's starry eyed looking at their pictures. Gosh, why are they so precious.

I laughed so hard!! "Why can't you two be normal?!" Omfg I am so glad they're not 😂😂

Also I don't think they're going to be break up. Rather these recent chapters are still building up Tatara as a person. Hes mentioning again he wants to meet the Hyoudou pair on the dance floor. He wants to get close to who he admires. His motivations, from the reader's viewpoint, we all know is clear. But for a main character, we still don't know much about his backstory. Tatara's bullies from middle school keep making return appearances. Takeuchi sensei is finally bringing it up again that he hasn't told his dad. Remember how his mom left and who knows where she is? Chinatsu expression was more incredulous and a hint of annoyance that he hasn't told. But I don't think it warrants a split.

The eye injury seems to be more of an obstacle for Tatara to overcome as a dancer. Like someone said before he might have to rely on the feelings and motions of dancing rather than seeing through his eyes. He'll rely on Chinatsu more or spend his time overcoming it in his own way or take time to rest and heal. Itll be inevitable theyll struggle as a couple. But they'll struggle this together. And again I don't think it warrants a split.

Takeuchi sensei developed Tatara and Chinatsu as a couple so beautifully. It doesn't make sense to me if they break up. MAYBE as a small "heat of the moment" build up before a competition. But not really permanently. If they ever did split, it would've been back if the Kugimiya pair had won. Chinatsu said she would have stopped dancing. (Though I doubted she really wanted to stop since she loves dancing so much) That wouldve been an understandable opportunity for Takeuchi sensei to make Tatara find another partner. But since the Fujita pair won, it only solidified they will keep moving on together as a couple.
