I don't know how they manage to do it but indie companies that were well received in the last decade nowadays do sequels that pale in comparison with their previous titles, basically half-baked remakes that most of the times are released as Early Access for the hypers to spend the money first, just to leave a bad aftertaste and no possibility of refund.
Only one I can think of is the Subnautica "sequel." Maybe that speaks to how forgettable they are given that they're indie sequels? What are some others?

like who ?
cause I ain't and no one I personally know does. even less for large swafs of people I am aware of.
guess my question was more like: give me some names cause I don't know personally anyone who does.
Add to the criteria: don't give internet names because like paid mods they are paid trolls.

I'm thinking about non-otaku games, in particular two indie publishers that moved to something else: 11 bit studios and Red Hook Studios. 11 bit studios became popular with This War of Mine and decided to switch (with a similar atmospheric game) to non-indie with Frostpunk and Frostpunk 2 was released late and without barely anything from the initial atmosphere and for Red Hook Studios it was Darkest Dungeon to the "sequel" that lost as well the indie part plus all the core. Of course there are exemples that stay in the indie line but those are two studios that took the route of turning indie into big public money grabbing while tricking their player base to follow them. Of course, I wasn't among them.

Frostpunk and Frostpunk 2 \ Darkest Dungeon
Personally I thought This War of Mine was good, but pretty flawed. Frostpunk and Frostpunk 2 don't really seem like a degradation of the studio's quality.

If you're looking for games with incredibly similar gameplay to This War of Mine, there's Siege Survival: Gloria Victis.

DD2 I can kind of understand with the departure of its overarching gameplay loop (though the battle system stayed the same). I did like what I played of it, though.

What I've noticed is that a lot of indie games try to copy DD and fall utterly flat. So maybe Red Hook was trying to breathe some life into their series and not get lost in the masses of games that came out and tried to copy them after DD's success.

Skyrim deserves that award, I stand on that hill.

EA can never make a game like that.

Dunno if it counts, but they just announced the switch port of Xenoblade X.
