From what I understood, she was a small town girl who went to a big city and for it was too difficult for her to fit in, she developed a depression.

More like 8, it's right around min wage for Japan. It's certainly not bad for a no experience required position and in Japan min wage will actually pay enough to live on but I wouldn't say it's "very good money" personally
