In the novel, Xu Jin was watching "Desperate Housewives" instead, with Xiao Xiao guessing based on the show title that it was an "exaggerated 8pm drama series" （狗血八点档）.

Xiao Xiao sneaked into Shi An's room after peeking at the veranda and making sure she wasn't spotted while Shi An was randomly practising headstands when Xiao Xiao saw him upside down in his room.

Timeline is pretty tight for the full deed since Xiao Xiao only went to Shi An's room after she got bored trying to figure out Jin's show without subtitles for quite a long time.

However, the moment Xiao Xiao opened the door slightly some time in the afternoon to peek into the living room, Jiang He heard it and turned immediately, hence Xiao Xiao was caught acting sneaky in Shi An's room while claiming to be visiting Xu Jin instead.

Side note: Beetle (the turtle) seems to not be favored by the artist. Its scenes have been cut out almost entirely.

Also: when Xiao Xiao was walking slowly to the bus stop, Shi An with his longer stride was intentionally slowing his pace to match hers

Winter melon has a grand total of 0 appearances or mentions in the epilogue chapters. Last appearance was in the final regular chapter 341 featuring an older winter melon lazing about, mocking the slow-moving beetle and enjoying the service of Xu Qing.
