Rereading this chapter, I noticed Makiba had exceptionally lousy luck in choosing his manga, considering the circumstances:

Cooking manga: You aren't human if you can't turn an anomalocaris and unknown, colourful mushrooms into a dish fitting for a Michelin restaurant.

Every other manga: You can either choose to learn how to peel a carrot or become a rocket scientist, but a human lifetime isn't enough for both.
