NGL, I like the premise, but find it's implementation rather unreasonable. Granted we have only gotten a first glimpse into this setting, but the fact that the materials collection department is so rundown it feels shortsighted, even for an evil black corporations. At some point in the last 50+ years they would have been exposed.
They have little to no security besides obscurity, the staff seems lackluster and free to come and go as they please, and whole department is completely understaffed and underfunded to the point of their office looks like a janitorial closet. Even if Severance levels of security things would have slipped out.
Even if the whole idea of the story is that this group is the lesser of the companies resource gathering departments, it would only make exposure even more likely. As written so far, it's to the point the story only works because the author flatly ignores it working any other way.
