grandpa is the "level 7 adventurer" the guild receptionist lady mentioned in one of the first chapters, the one who absorbed the most power from defeating men and creatures. Ryoma asked why he stopped at 7, and the lady said "New adventurers shouldn't worry." It's not that he necessarily stopped, he was just sucked back out of that world and disappeared.
