We haven't really even seen other Yokai, so what if it's option C: Yachiru was going to die because she was a half-Yokai, and her dad made a deal with another Yokai that kept her alive at the cost of his own (already short) life?

If that's all she had to say then why even pretend to be Yachiru and gain access to his house by invited in?? Like it makes no sense. I don't trust a word she says after that little stunt and has been shown to lie before
This is really the biggest thing for me.

There was absolutely no reason to try any trickery if the only thing she wanted to give him was a genuine warning.

I am pretty sure the whole 'maybe Yachiru caused it' was also just something she came up with to stop him from telling her about this. I do not for a second believe she actually thinks that.

Dad probably died of natural causes but mom needed a way to cope and came up with a nonexistent curse

Yeah pretty sure she's only bullshitting. As she said, all of this cames from what she thinks and the way she speaks it's like she's not even sure herself. Husband could very well just get ill naturally.
Dont think shes fully bullshitting, but definetely driven by speculation. She might whole heartedly blame herself for her husbands death and that might be the cause of alot of the wedge she has driven between not only herself and her daughter, but her daughter and others.

Not saying shes right, just that she seems to truly believe that was the cause.

She's a yokai so maybe she barely understands human problems and her husband died of natural causes.
Does she even understand what an illness is? Aging?
Yeah I get the feeling she genuinely believes the relationship killed her husband but that she's wrong and he got sick entirely by coincidence.

6 years between the original cause and its supposed effect is like, more than a slight stretch in terms of causal relationship. There are so many other things that it could be within that timespan that it just seems like a wild assumption

"Mother-in-law, in this house we believe in the scientific method and follow the laws of thermodynamics. Well then, if you excuse me, I have to prepare for an experiment" closes the door and a vibrating sound is heard behind

I think she just snusnu'd her husband to death, and doesn't understand that a human male cannot withstand a giantess jumping on his dick for years without consequences.
The spirit was willing, but the flesh was spongy and bruised.

Cue the investigative arc on Yahiru's father mysterious ailment.
Doctor holding an X-ray: "I've never seen a pelvis this shattered before!"

Hm. From what I can tell, if we take her mother at her word, she believes that the curse is something akin to a curse of misfortune. It would be an understandable response to grief, and the vague notion of misfortune can tend to make one attribute it to everything that happens in their life—and her mother has no way to find out the true answer, because her husband's already dead. Though I also don't know how she acts outside of her distress right now, so how much of this is grief response, how much is this her playing tricks for another reason, I definitely don't fucking know.

Still don't make it right hoisting all that on our fella, though.

It’s going to be fucking hilarious if he died of old age and they managed to have a child that late in his life, or the sadder possibility of he just genuinely got sick and it wasn’t her fault.

The fact she isn’t human means she wouldn’t understand much when it comes to illnesses and probably even some emotions other than love and the obvious pain of loss.
