Lastly, I’ll give my two cents on soul philosophy. If they isekai into some sort of media they interacted with on earth, that opens a huge can of worms. Do all authors functionally play god and actually create alternate realities? Was this world frozen in time waiting for external input? Is isekai essentially wresting an entire reality out of the matrix? Was there a soul in there in the first place, or a script?

Hm! This is an interesting take. the idea that there were no souls or consciousnesses or anything truly living until the isekai happened and brought it to life

Nice to see other comments already pointing it out, but I hate these kinds of scenes in "I woke up as X character" works. It's baffling that an author would think it's heartwarming to have a scene where a character is happy to see positive changes in someone's personality, when the reality is that their consciousness just got overwritten by someone else's.

And that, going a step further, arguably EVERYONE ELSE'S consciousness and backstory in this world are just based off of a fictional work written by someone else. In that sense it's kind of like Westworld or something, where the androids in the park have mental breakdowns when they find out that their memories of their pasts/lives before a certain point are all artificial.

I'm not saying they have to lean into the edgy existential horror aspects of it, but at least don't go out of your way to play it off like "aww look at this cute scene where the maid is happy to see her master becoming a better person." It's even weirder when they acknowledge in-universe how sudden and drastic the change was.
