I don't hate the "I don't understand love" concept (heck, YagaKimi is one of my all-time favourite manga), but the way it's done here feels so out of place and more like the author is trying to write himself out of a corner with these two rather than a conclusion that he's arrived at organically.

Not that this is a problem with this manga specifically, many serialised stories run into this type of roadblock sooner or later.

It sorta does make sense with her character - she's been watching Anjou and Toyoda being all lovey dovey with their boyfriends, and watching them (in her mind) drift further away from her.

But she also sees them happy, even without her, and that's part of the ongoing tension that Chita brings to the narrative. She fears change, wants things to stay the same and for her friends to always be by her side, but she doesn't get why they want to be with their lovers, and why they want to keep moving forward when it scares her so much.
At the same time, she knows that Tokio has feelings for her, but whatever she perceives from him, she herself doesn't feel--only that he's also important to her, but in ways she can't square beyond 'childhood friend' or 'foodie partner'. But the kicker for her, is now Tokio is getting attention from others, and she now sees the same pattern potentially playing out that did with Anjou & Toyoda--and Tokio might leave her behind, too.
But she also knows he's told her he won't, but that uncertainly over not really getting it--getting his "love"--means that she's got that stress of not knowing, and being afraid of her last close person abandoning her (again, in her mind).

And so her "I don't understand love" is born of all of that: her fear of change, her ignorance of what love & romance is and how it connects people, and how all of that affects her and how it could make things "not the same" in ways she can't comfortably predict.

Chita doesn't understand love because she's never experienced it in the way she's seen others experience it, but she does know that they changed, and that scares her--but she's realized that Tokio is her last chance, and if she wants to keep him around, she needs to confront this at last and sort it out.

At least, that's my read on it.

I think the character of Chita has some good points to develop. Possibly I am in a minority. It's a girl that not sees herself as someone valuable or pretty. Her personality is some kind of distorted trying to find some good points about herself.

I believe that this is the best time to include some conversations between the girls. Let them grow together because limiting the friend relationships to couples is not good at this age.

I think that, even after all this, I still probably would have preferred Chita to be the protagonist of a side story rather than lumping her antics with Tokio in with the other two couples. Again, somewhat akin to what Shinigeki no Eroko is to Henjo. It's not like the mangaka hasn't already done side manga for this already, but I guess juggling multiple serializations isn't exactly easy unless it were to be done after the fact.

Much like a small handful of others on here, I'm not really in the "I hate Chita" camp, but she's been the least interesting since she's just taken this long to get to this point. In a way, it is part of her character arc that's now coming to fruition, but when it's taken this long and she's been on the outer edge of the important characters for this long, I find it difficult to bring myself to be interested in it. Anything else I'll say would just be retreading more of what I already said, although it's not like I didn't already do a bit of it here.

Well, hey, at least the few Chita fans are getting something out of it.

I don't think it's a complete lack of romantic feeling so much as not understanding if the feeling she feels is romantic. That's the point of this chapter - she doesn't want to be defined as the explicitly platonic Tokio's childhood friend or sibling like, but is happy with partners precisely b/c it signifies something different. She's just figuring out how to process the different b/c it's both a major life change and also shaped differently than her friend's relationships (
ETA: and/or her expectations of what romantic love is supposed to look like.)
I think this describes it very well- she's still in her formative years really and as others have said clearly doesn't like change and has an aversion to it

It feels fitting for her to not completely understand if her feelings are romantic or not and honestly that's okay and doesn't inherently mean she's aro/ace all it means is she's maturing at a different pace and has deliberately avoided sorting out her feelings because of that
I remember when I was a teenager and asked my Aunt how she knew she wanted to marry her newlywed husband. I like her description of love best: "When you think to yourself that you don't want to go a single day without seeing that person, that's how you know."
This might be one of the best goddamn descriptors I can think of now for love

Care to name one point of evidence that she has a libido?
I mean- I know they said asexual but that's distinctly different from being aromantic which is what WOULD be applicable here and I assume is what they meant
lol, lmao even. You people really are desperate huh?
Dude I agree with the sentiment that that there isn't enough that to say much if anything about her sexuality but you also didn't remotely address their question/point lmao

She's literally confronting herself and trying to grow. Good. I enjoy this type of slow natural development.

People seem to have not noticed that they've done a gender flip for the tropes but we're literally just doing the same dynamic as the other two couples. Yet you hate her for having the personality of a mix of Seto and Inuyama.

Yup, and also the whole point of aero/ace/queer discourse is that people fall all along a complicated multidimensional space w.r.t. sexuality.

Could very well be that Chi's only considering a romantic relationship b/c it's Tokio - this is very much not uncommon, especially in Japanese media.

Its a more severe than the boys though. Chita knows and rejects, while the boys were wishy-washy. Plus, I don't recall anyone praising Seto's personality much either. Inuyama was more accepted since his perversion antics were funny.

I assume you posted this before ever seeing my response of not engaging in Reddit gotcha debates over her sexuality.

Chita: I don't really understand why love really is!!
Tokio: just offer your pussy to me and I'll teach you what love really is
