My friend made the note that Yani-Neko behaves the most like an actual drug addict, and that her nicotine addiction makes the least sense for her personality overall (i.e., nicotine is a stress reducing stimulant and you don't really find lazy chainsmokers.)

There lot of scene that suggest Landlord actually taking care of her than her actual parent (despite the misunderstanding). That's why she said as long as the landlord allow it she is fine with that.

And there's also scene where she got mad to Hikkineko being a menace and bum despite she already been saved by Landlord, raised by him for a long time and actually his relative.

Don't forget Landlord also giving Yaku Otoshidama (New Year Money) when the new year comes.

These two actually pretty sweet. They just hang around with wrong people..
