I wouldn't say that was the start of her redemption. You might say her talking to Saotome during the last swim school was the start, but that was kind of washed out by her antics at the fireworks.

I would say this is the start because it is the first time we have seen her regret her actions and say she is trying to be a better person, even if it is putting her at a disadvantage.

Yuna actually becoming close to victory purely via being able to communicate her feelings and having guts to follow through is one of my favourite parts of this manga honestly. That and how it more or less acknowledges that the issues with the communication aren't purely on Hodaka, but also on the rest of the girls.

Don't get me wrong, I love the manga, but our protagonist is still as dense as a nutron star. Yes the girls could have said "I like you lets go out" but how do you not understand that Modaka is dtf after the swim school? I think it may be more that Saotome has been scared and running away from his feelings.

Kinda reminds me of Invaders of the rokujouma! Where the girls had to work together to force him not to run away from them.

Kasumi and Yuna are legitimately the biggest reasons why Hodaka is so messed up emotionally. There is a reason why their arcs are described as the redemption arcs instead of simply character growth arcs, since they legitimately wrecked Hodaka's self esteem and ability to judge girls' intentions towards him.

Don't get me wrong, they did become better people and took steps to fix their mess, but the point stands that they really needed all this development to be even tolerable let alone liked by him.
