I agree that Takae's "confession" wasn't straightforward, but I think Saotome didn't bought her lie. He might still be uncertain about her feelings but the seed of doubt has been (finally) planted.Did you completely skipped the chapter in which Takae kissed Saotome and sold him on the lie that kisses are just things that girls go around doing casually and that he shouldn't take anything that happened with both her and Ushigome seriously?
And then he immediately went "Oh well if it wasn't that big a deal i guess i was overreacting for nothing", the only one that has properly confessed is Ushigome, and Saotome is just idling how to turn her down, Takae on the other hand went and set everything 10 steps back
Still my point remains, this is definitely the "multiple confessions" arc. The author seems to have decided to move the romance plot in a meaningful way, so real confessions and rejections are incoming (unless Saotome just picks the girl he likes and the others get a rejection by default)
