It’s depressing how if you flipped genders, in our fucked up modern society they would have been considered a “fake friend” for having a crush on them at the same time, and would be instantly maligned, trash talked on social media, labeled all manner or horrible things, and subsequently exiled from the friend group.

I mean, this is literally part of what Hodaka fears and one of the things that keep him from reciprocating his feelings. Guy is scared shitless of the uneven power dynamic he has with the girls and of the fact that his social life might have genuinely ended the first chapter. The fact that Hodaka is judged to a different standard than the others and that it hampers his relationships is actually a recurring theme here.
