To be fair, in a real world the answer would be "because it's a 1:359 ratio school" - i.e. "He's just one of the girls" (especially since he's not gone all H maniac at them, but instead been pretty cool/mellow).

Good for friendship, which was the main goal for him in most cases (I haven't seen any harem inclinations in him), but it does make it tougher upon him to suss out any genuine interest.
(Like Yankee or Childhood Friend. I'm all with you about possibly being waay too dense with Childhood Friend - unless he surprises me next episode by actually understanding what she's intimating.)
