Inuyasha was the first anime I saw on TV after Dragon Ball when I was a wee lad so it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Being a Sesshomaru fan like any teenage boy back then, seeing him conjure Bakusaiga but barely get to use before the story is over was a letdown, and it was done solely to completely negates Naraku being able to show up, be a pest, and retreat to regenerate for the entire story and nobody can do anything about it.
Now you tell me they're doing a sequel with his daughters? Ho boy this is not going to be easy to pull off because:
1. Sesshomaru is invincible by the end of Inuyasha, he surpassed his dad by being able to manifest a weapon out of nothing and regrow his arm in magical light (compare to the way Naraku regenerates), something no other being was shown capable of. Not even his dad, whose weapons were still forged out of raw materials. Bakusaiga literally came to be, gifted from Rumiko-sensei herself. So who is going to show up and go up against that? Which includes targetting his daughter.
2. Same thing applies to Inuyasha's daughter, as if Kagome is going to let anything happen to their baby without sicing Inuyasha at it.
3. Whos the mother? If you're a mediocre fan-fic level writer it can only be Rin. If you're some sort of genius savant visionary you create a brand new character and make it work (impossible.)
Why impossible? To start, for the longest time I was dead certain Sesshomaru/Kagura was going to happen until Rumiko-sensei officially ended it. Kagura's death remained very tragic and the anime scene was even more heartbreaking with the music and voice work.
During the same period, Kohaku/Rin were beyond perfect consider their age, upbringing, and time spent together under Sesshomaru's wardship. The anime-only episode "Forever with Sesshomaru-sama" already brought up Rin and Sesshomaru's destined parting and it's melancholic to watch even today, but it'd be dampened if Rin and Kohaku lived a fufilling life after Naraku's defeat and Sesshomaru continued watching over them as a stepfather.
So does that mean Sesshomaru must remain celibate? Because who else can he have offspring with? If Kagura was alive I'd be against it today after consideration because she's an incarnation of Naraku, who isn't exactly a demon himself but an amalgamation of all the lesser demons, which makes Kagura a homunculus of sorts. It's actually unfathomable to write what would be if you mix a purebreed daiyokai with whatever Kagura is. But that doesn't matter since Rumiko shut that door as to not think about it (or Kagura can simply be sterile as all Naraku incarnation and he himself ought to be.)
So then are you going to introduce a brand new character that Rumiko-sensei couldn't even introduce in Inuyasha and have her and Sesshomaru hit it off post-Inuyasha? Of course ideally it'd be another pure dog-demon like his mom. But what personality can she have? It's equally unfathomable to think Sesshomaru is attracted to, or would pursue someone as regal and dignified as his Lady Mother. Nor would that type even be attracted to someone as cold as Sesshomaru. His dad on the other hand has that approchable swagger that totally slays the Lady Mother-type (including Zero) so those two are workable pairing.
The only types that can be pair with Sesshomaru are the endlessly patient, kind, and understanding type who reveres him (someone like that also existed in yet another anime-only episode, Sara I believe, while Sesshomaru held no animosity towards her, he wouldn't exactly marry her either unless she sticks around long enough for him to care.) Which only leaves Rin, and thus why I said a mediocre fanfic level writer can only ever choose Rin to be the mother. I don't believe anyone is able to create a new character with that personality and fit it in. We already saw that fail to play out in Koga's eventual mate, Ayame.
Now with Yashahime:
This is the first "serious" (not One Punch Man) manga where the action is just them using the same one two moves and have it work and the enemy is killed within the chapter. Kind of awesome because I don't like artist having to pour over much work in the action panels for them to be just skimmed in 10 seconds (like Chainsaw Man). But having the fights so succinct we might as well be a line of text saying they fought and they won. With the action this condensed the entire story is they kill lieutenants, they kill penultimate big bad, they kill big bad.
What was the big bad's motivation for being big bad? Still badly explained and it should be a dealbreaker but not really because it's shallow and cliche enough that you get the gist of it because it's nothing groundbreaking and unpredictable (like Attack on Titan where if the same things didn't make sense there it would be a dealbreaker.)
What was Sesshomaru doing? Something that was holding the big bad back, thus he couldn't be there for his daughter or something. Which is kind of unforgivable because in this story Sota is THE MVP and Sesshomaru owes Sota his eternal grattitude. If there's a single human Sesshomaru ought to bow his head to it'd be Sota for raising Towa above and beyond what a perfect father would do.
The girls having to choose between modern day Japan vs Feudal was yet again the only serious decision both in Inuyasha and Yashahime. But what can you do really? It'd be a complete different story and genre if they can freely travel back and forth (and carry items no less), so by not allowing that they have to choose and I was disappointed in Kagome for choosing to stay in fantasy land over her birth family, but the bond she forged with her companions through life and death in their journey is undeniable. Towa owes her life to Sota and leaving all that to be with her birth parents who are never there for her to begin with, and even after they won't be with her because she is going on adventuring instead of going to school in japan (that I get), but it just feels like yet another escapism. But it's not like the three can just stay in modern day Japan because they have no IDs or anything. Just like Sesshomaru's mate, it'll take better writing talent to come up with something more satisfactory and even now nobody could.
