I loved the character designs in this and it's a shame it had to be axed. I kind of personally think Seb's introduction felt a bit desperate to begin with, same with Sally, but I do wish there could have been more to chew on, oh well.

I just prefer it this way instead of rushing the story to end in a chapter or two like a slow torture, just end it right here and there

This feels less like an axe, and more of a of Mice and Men kinda thing. Just think about the Rabbits, Maou-san...
