I've been in a Korean middle school, and I'm pretty sure it's not like it's a strict rule, but I haven't seen anyone do it because no one really cares-- so everyone sticks to their gendered uniforms. But, since it's not a strict rule, if a girl was super tall or way too large for a girls uniform, they could wear a boys uniform for practicality. Then again, no one really is interested in it.

They are events where girls and boys gender switch (at festivals and such) but not much otherwise.

Idk I'm not sure if I answered your question but this is just based off of my experience

This could really be one of those trash yaoi stories where the cute and girly mc is harassed by all the handsome and manly guys he meets
