Author: "I'll celebrate chapter 50 by doing a lore dump explaining WTF actually happened and how."

Also this manga has some pretty dark undertones:
  • Basically, total mind control. (Aside from plot convenient hairpin and ring.)
  • Liv is basically a slave of the government organization that controls her.
  • Liv is pretty amoral about using the power of Oath.
  • The government is (at least potentially) much worse about abusing the power of Oath.
  • Liv is Oathholder, her sister is controlling agent of the organization. Did her older sister cause Liv to become the Oathholder?
  • Is organization aware of and looking for Akihiko? Liv pretty much (inadventently) gave away the truth about Akihiko here. The organization would obviously be determined to capture Akihiko as well.

  • Liv wanted to be "free".
    • A child has no responsibilities.
  • Thanks to "transference", it was Aki who got turned into a young Liv.
    • Since Aki's body essentially became Loli Liv, he gained her powers too.
I wonder if Aki becoming even more childlike was Ryoutarou's wish when he give her the Christmas gifts...

MTL is a tool. If you use it alone, it's going to do a poor job. If you use it along with your knowledge of the language and the piftalls MTL's usually fall into (like ignoring particles and mashing words together, messing up verb tense and verb conjugation, failing to recognize an idiom, or ignoring context and using the wrong meaning for a word), it can drastically speed things up without lowering quality. I have no issue with a translator using MTL so long as they're not lazy about it. The internet is also much faster at finding the meanings of a kanji than trying to dig through a Japanese kanji dictionary or spending years memorizing them.

"Little girl life" very quickly turned into "random girl with super powers soaking up all the screen time life"

You only miss things that are culturally sensitive, eg. cherry blossoms in Japanese culture being a metaphor for transience, which you do need for really high quality translation work.

But most manga will not require that kind of translation anyway~

I see. This perspective makes a lot of sense to me. I hope I can fall into the category of non-lazy MTL users :worry:
