me either. i think the entire trip, basically from the moment they met haruka to when kou comes home and reads mahiru's letter was genuinely awful. the gap in quality between that arc and the rest of this manga could fit several planets.

Well the chapter started with Mahiru's quote. That quote was after Mahiru seemed to realize that Nazuna was unaware of her true feelings. That kind of tips off what is happening, what is about to happen between them or at least what Nazuna's personal arc is right now. Author's making it clear what thread he's connecting the story back to.

i get you and i agree but i mean we just had a whole arc culminate with the knowledge that a vampire will die/potentially kill someone else if they suck the blood of someone they love which is why i don't think this is necessarily a victorious moment. that's to say, i don't think we're done with "drama" quite yet.

Except the culmination of that arc it turned out to be same myth consistently with most other ways of "vampire turning human", a metaphoric death.

Part of it is Mahiru's quote at the beginning connecting it back to her romantic plot thread, which he wished her well on. The next clue is her reflection on her relationship with Haruka. It was the realization that she thinks of Haruka as a brother which made her realize the meaning of her own feelings towards Kou. That juxtaposition made a difference.

A lot of the meaning in this manga is locked in subtext, and honestly the emotional depth makes it feel much more like seinen than shounen.

Maybe? We know she was vulnerable at that point in time, and she died right as the sun started rising. Did she die because she fell in love, or because of the sun? Kotoyama intentionally left it ambiguous.
