Well, had she decided to be cold hearted, she'd have popsicles instead of friends by now.
I find it a little hard to believe that the entire party except for Ren set off on this journey this unprepared. I mean, it's fiction so whatever, but damn.
The Lord of Winter's passive effect is also an added challenge. Essentially, you have a super winter with propably say normal -20C turning into -40 or below with double or triple the snow. They would all be dead already, but at the same time they are a bunch of kids. I'm a adult, I go often camping in late autumn, the first few years I often notice thing that would've been very useful but with experience come foresight also.
It's not the orphanage staff that sold her, but the very owner of the Orphanage. Essentially, if I recall correct, he runs it with the very intention of randomly picking up kids with rare and valuable skills and then selling them off. Cruel, but atleast as a side effect kids that would otherwise die on the streets are allowed to grow up into their teens. Our MC heading back to her origin city can’t end well, it was the very orphanage that sold her (ch. 39). Can see them more than happy to sell her out again to the people who pay the orphanage operating costs.
Also, taking/saving the kids from there means she will need to support them instead.
