except the thing is completely legal for their worldFor a smart person, Ren is quite dumb. She has money and connections now, she could try to blow the lid on the orphan slave market without getting that involved and exposed. Well maybe it is a future plot line at some point.
Come to think of it, I wonder what her true parentage is, since she was abandoned as a toddler. Inb4 this guy was his grandfather or something.
It's not legal, though. It's threading the needle of a series of loopholes, only possible because no one cares and a powerful individual is doing it.except the thing is completely legal for their world
there was some massive red flags here, please tell me she never gets caught?
Something like that requires corruption being involved, unless it is legal. For a smart person, Ren is quite dumb. She has money and connections now, she could try to blow the lid on the orphan slave market without getting that involved and exposed. Well maybe it is a future plot line at some point.

why are you pretending that a modern court is overlooking this? The thing is...if a contract has no mention of how it's broken or how long it lasts...it's actually not an 'unbreakable contract' but a 'broken in any way' contract.
A contract is a document requiring to do something and restricting you so that you do it properly. That means that everything it is NOT restricting is allowed. This does indeed mean that for a contract to be unbreakable and permanent, it needs to explicitly state that it is unbreakable and permanent. Otherwise it lasts until any party wishes to break it (without any consequences) and can be broken in any way a person fancies (including by simply not following it, whether or not the other party is aware).
But I do get it that most people do not understand this, and I believe even many courts would need to be educated on this matter in order to give proper judgement.
I mean, she did explain that the more there are nearby the more powerful they become. Those defensive towers have a range of 3 m, but somehow having four at the corners of her wall is enough.
Not sure I'd call that "close together" with that range, since the length of the wall is several times that. Unless they don't need to be that close, and the increase in power is massive.I mean, she did explain that the more there are nearby the more powerful they become.
