Sadly, I agree. I think the whole point is somebody knowing their end is coming trying to live a life of meaning while struggling with their death physically while not letting it stop him mentally. I do just hope that when he dies he isn't alone and can see the difference he made on others during his short time.

The empire only evidence is a magic cannon that was sold to a foreign country and then brought back and another noble brought it to them, they can't use just that as evidence of treason as it could be a plan to frame MC father, they will likely keep obeervers around and then make them leave and plant spies.
s even possible they will not remove the public agents and the duke will still restart production because for some reason he needs that money.

I recognize that, I'm just too used to other exile stories where the moment people learn the MC have a demerit but it still the good persn they know they turn on him.
The father betraying the country for money seems made just to make him fall.

Nah, we haven't seen much of him but it doesn't seem to be a plan to make the empire fall from helping a enemy country, he sold the cannon to a foreigner that needed it to fight a monster, putting himself at risk for quick money.
My guess is that the first wife died when MC was born, so he hated him, when he discovered he was sick and frail he distanced himself so to not get attached, add to that the hate growing inside that his wife died for MC,
He dislikes MC, but even knows his first wife would hate to see him treating him badly, so he just kept him in the house, gave him freedom and cures, but no parental love.

That's the problem, I don't understand why he need money so quickly and with a risk that big.
He had a whole secret factory, that means it wasn't a one time thing or a wish to help a neighbor in trouble.
If he was mounting up a coup he wouldn't be giving them away.
Is really weird, noble, high position, for now no hint of financial trouble, as of now the author wanted to put MC father in a bad spot for no good reason.
Readers will say that is karma for being a bad father, but in the end he decided to avoid the son that caused his beloved to die (wrong, but understandble) and paid for his costly cures for years, if he wanted him dead he would have just abandoned him.
