Sadly, I agree. I think the whole point is somebody knowing their end is coming trying to live a life of meaning while struggling with their death physically while not letting it stop him mentally. I do just hope that when he dies he isn't alone and can see the difference he made on others during his short time.

The empire only evidence is a magic cannon that was sold to a foreign country and then brought back and another noble brought it to them, they can't use just that as evidence of treason as it could be a plan to frame MC father, they will likely keep obeervers around and then make them leave and plant spies.
s even possible they will not remove the public agents and the duke will still restart production because for some reason he needs that money.

I recognize that, I'm just too used to other exile stories where the moment people learn the MC have a demerit but it still the good persn they know they turn on him.
The father betraying the country for money seems made just to make him fall.
It hits weird as we see the father regretting his hateful words towards him when looking at a portrait, I presume is MC mother that died in childbirth and that is why he grew distant.
