Okay, after reading so many isekai manga, this one is refreshing. It's a combination of the characters and the art style, with the art style playing a HUGE role.
So many isekai manga use a really generic style, but this one is more stylized and rougher around the edges. I use that last part in a good way, the style has a lot of rigid lines instead of just being super smooth all the time, and keeps it simple. It makes it feel more cartoon-y, and character designs more unique even with the few characters that have appeared so far. It makes it feel more like a "regular" fantasy story than "just another isekai". (I keep getting flashbacks to Dragonball for some reason?)
And the characters are fun too so far. An old guy who's a martial arts master, and has zero understanding of the game-like mechanisms of the world. Then a nurse who DOES know about video games and is able to understand it, but keeps passing out from fear at the sight of super-big monsters. And is also still convinced the old man is super feeble because, well, he WAS dying at the start until he leveled up while she was unconscious.
On that note, it's interesting that the level up announcement isn't a screen but actually a voice that everyone can hear (though only the person leveling up hears it, but it's not exclusive to other-worlders), which is used as a basis for religion. At least, based on what little we know. It's already a more interesting take than the usual video game interface we see.
Only four chapters in so far, but this one has a lot of potential and is seriously just refreshing for the art alone!
