I agree. I only counted 8 zeroes on the status page. So it's only 100,000,000 (1 hundred million) or 1 oku--a Japanese unit. As to where they got the incorrect 1 billion from...I think it was probably misinformation from a bad translation, like google translate (it comes up as a "billion" when I tried it), which is wrong since in every source I can find (besides google translate), in North America and now the UK, 1 billion is 9 zeroes.
