Not just us. Most species don't eat their own unless it's an emergency and even then they usually don't just kill them.

It was the best they had at the time and the priority was to take their minds off of their deaths. Besides:

what i like is that they become so powerful that they can easily kill trash like the ones who killed and raped them. you can try to reduce their character all you want but it wont change the fact that Van's maids are badass.
