Never skimp on safety/recovery gear, folks.

When I was still on install crews, my PPE were the most expensive parts of my kit, especially the power-related stuff. The stuff we worked was single feed, 6-18kVDC @1.5A and it definitely can kill you, but the most dangerous work was with 48VDC @800A per feed, 8-feeds per BDFB. Double-dipped insulated tools, arc-flash gear, asbestos mitigation gear, poly-toe boots, were the gear du jour.

Explaining it to the new guys was easy. At the power levels we worked, if anything shorted the result was really simple: AC leaves a body to fry, DC leaves a mess to scrape off the walls. You don't want to become a ground path.
