Really feels strange to me how everyone seems to care for him. The only other comics I've seen where such care by a wide cast happens, are story about toddlers or really young kids that live alone or are kidnapped and seperated from their family.

His safety is a concern because we’re dealing with royalty here. Aside from him not knowing this world’s norms for dealing with nobles in general, which in and of itself may lead to punishment if he accidentally offends somebody, he’s dealing with the princess here, where anything could lead to his execution. In fact when he served the mapo tofu he was nearly killed on the spot because it was spicy. So guaranteeing that their cook, which at this point the group can’t live without, stays safe regardless of his manners would be in his best interest.

The guy is making them all good food during a time where they should be eating war rations. On top of that he's helping them through their personal struggles along with it. It'd be weirder for them to NOT care at that point. Its also worth nothing this isnt just over the course of a couple weeks or smth iirc, but like several months now.

He's the guy that makes their food and then is otherwise their emotional rock

Nobility and especially Royalty have a habit of making demands rather then making requests. A fair few expect anyone below a certain rank to act more like loyal slaves then what we would consider free men and women.

The real trouble starts when an individual shows talent or above average beauty. Because there is nothing worse then a noble who wants what you have or can do and don't care by what means they attain iorand or you.
