This is one of the best (SoL) mangas I've ever read [yet]. I'll just have to reread it when I'm experiencing withdrawals. 🤣
Thank you very much for the scanlations. 😄

I do not understand this manga at all.

This is currently rated third on mangadex, so I might be overhyped and delusional enough to see this to be as good as the second coming of christ. But one thing is for sure, is that I fail to understand what makes this manga so good.

Slice of life is something that is sort of an acquired taste. Usually with any SOL manga: there aren't any strong goals, there is little to no tension, and there isn't any "antagonists/protagonists," rather the entire cast is one. The premise of any SOL manga can simply be summed up as a "wildcard" (eg. Yotsuba, Machida, Komi, Hina, Senko, etc.) is thrown into what society seems as normal, with each individual in the cast having their own small quirks and personalities. The interactions between such characters is what I think is what makes any SOL entertaining.

The wildcard for this manga, Yugami is the epitome of wildcard. However, his unpredictable behaviour completely detracts from his amazing character depth. He is known to suffer on the inside behind his mask of irrationality in some chapters, which makes you question his backstory. But it is never explained why he acts in such way, as he would be somewhat bearable if there was some solid reasoning behind it. Also, every single interaction with him can be broken down to: (Please do this social norm) -> (No I am going to go my own way) -> (He wins and gets left alone). There isn't anything inherently wrong with this and sometimes is seen as a good thing (e.g. standing up for what he thinks is right), but most of the time is just this asinine behaviour that has no point other than to piss off the person talking to him. What makes it worse is that it is played for laughs but the only thing it's playing for me is being irritating.

If anyone wants to explain how to like this character please do, I feel like I'm missing something real cool.

TLDR: Manga which relies on the interactions between characters dragged down by irate cheese-grater of a main character.

Because that's how some people are, if you fail to understand something as basic as this, there's not much one can do to explain this manga. Yugami is a loner character but done in a fun way. And another important point you fail to recognise is that Yugami is not PoV character of this manga, Chihiro is. The manga is hilarious, with great writing, good art, fun characters, not using tired tropes and cliches. Good genuine character development without anyone ever feeling like they became a different person. It a match of some other genre aside from basic SoL in being a sports manga occasionally as well as romance, which was done fantastically. Possibly the best simple gradual romance I've read in a manga. You say that he's always right in being left alone while he was outright said to be wrong multiple times. There is also a LOT of subtlety in this manga regarding character growth, especially in regards to Chihiro and Yugami. All the characters feel like real people with their own lives.

Again, see the manga from Chihiro's perspective, she's the MC, even more so than Yugami. There is just nothing negative about this manga, nothing to really dislike.

@loosalat How much have you read so far? If you want a definitive answer, there isn't one. However,
we know he loved his grandpa and his grandpa was the original. He was taught to act this way and he begins keeping notes to not change his character at some point in the story.
He is quite odd,
but that seems very deliberate. Not because he likes being special, but potentially because he wants to be like his beloved grandpa
. Thaaat said, I never found him annoying. I don't think it's possible to enjoy this manga if you hate his character this much no matter his backstory.

Hard to believe it has been almost a month already, I still find myself refreshing my Tachiyomi library hoping for a new chapter, not as often as before but every few days it happens, actually haven't been as inclined to read that much manga in general since this ended but that's for other reasons as well.
That said, actually not indulging in the sadness that it's over, every time it happens I just like to look back a bit and remember what a good time it was to read it almost daily.
It's tempting to pick it up again but it's still a bit early for that much indulgence, the time will come to pick it up again though, like every good manga.

@Paulo27 I've been reading some manga after Yugami ended and it just doesn't quite feel the same. I remember the anticipation and excitement I had waiting for an upcoming chapter and it doesn't quite compare anymore. It really is a testament to how great of a manga it was. I've been rereading some chapters from time to time and it's great. Also since I moderate r/Yugami, I see a lot of fanart to remember the good old days.

Damn, my hope for the ending was too high. Since beginning i understand that it was quite difficult to hoping there will be a romance in this manga but seem like the author trying to make one.

Yugami also a human, he could feels blushed and this is make a great impact that we should consider that he also has a feeling of particular human.

But it doesn't go that way, Yugami's character just too consistent, i don't hate it tho but at least let him understand or consider that Chihiro is important to him.

I'm wondering what is his true intention about always inviting chihiro to watch rakugo together.

@kuronotsuki You're denser than Chihiro and Yugami.
@jet45s Because it's funny, has likeable characters, great gradual believable character development, good art, characters remain consistent yet grow simultaneously. JK Haru and this is completely unrelated, but how the fuck is it original? It's yet another isekai shit only this time the MC is a prostitute, what's exactly special about that?

@Darklight99 Know the quote "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"? On the internet it's sort of the other way around. Never attribute to stupidity that which is adequately explained by trolling. He is definitely baiting.

@Darklight99 sorry about that. I dont have that much free time to read manga all the time like this Yugami-kun that has so many words blah blah blah per pages and JK Haru is the first manga i read about an isekai'd prostitute.. you said its not original so can you give me more manga like this one ?

but i see your butthurt on my comment cuz you're a virgin, you dont like slut MC and you rated JK Haru 1 star.. I hit you pretty hard huh? oh so thats why you have so much free time to read Yugami-kun cuz you're a fucking NEET.

liking and defending timid girl / weak ass looking MC, typical virgin way of thinking.

@jet45s Holy fuck the projection, but the comment above yours was right, your attempt at trolling was too obvious, better luck next time.

The very fact that Yugami lied to Chihiro [OH Coincidence!!](when he gave the ticket to her for the first time, (Ch 81.5 bonus)) is enough of an indication regarding his feelings.
He is someone who would get straight to the point and yet he lied. Combine it with all the other events and it is quite obvious what is happening tbh!!
