Yeah....I like how many mangakas try rom-com genre but due to their copy-pasting and lack of inner comedic nature they fail at both. Romance is usually artificial or non-existent and always is being slogged by unexpected "comedic" situations that stop any progress if there was one.
Comedy on the other hand is mostly juvenile and reactive and quite bluntly mean if you think deep enough. Like even cheesy american comedy movies can make me smile (if not laugh) a few times, manga though with comedy? With some series i read them with stone cold poker face and inner annoyance at the series.
The most jarring thing about their comedy is not that it's troupey or cliched (it's only a problem for veterans) but that in the same work they place the same jokes multiple times. It's like going to a stand up and hearing on comedian using knock knock jokes one after another and he is changing only some words: Knock* Knock* Who's there? Banana/Cola/Joe/Pam/Dick/Marry! "
insert noun" who?
Like any joke has catastrophic diminishing returns when repeated or does Japanese mind work differently? If so it's a heaven for bad stand up comedians, use the same joke until retirement.
