For a beginner, author really did a good job. Just until you start to write, draw a whole work that you'll understand how hard to fill all your idea and polish them nicely. I am very happy with this lovely ending and hope for next series.

I'm definitely curious about the other ending now, but mostly because I'm curious if it's just/mainly the ending that would be different or the entire series. Because the author does write here that the editor said readers would flip out if you go from comedy to dark ending and that such endings need a specific structure. But does this mean the editor misread the oneshot as comedy (the first chapter absolutely ends on a darker implication than the follow-up chapters) or does it mean the author initially wrote dark implication in the first chapter into a bunch of light-hearted comedy into a dark ending because yeah that would probably have been awkward (though they could definitely have gotten away with a less positive ending than what we got imo).

Yeah, bit confused on this one. It would follow the oneshot just fine. I don't see why the readers would be upset about such a natural ending.
From the extra, it looks like more than the ending, it was the sudden switch in tone that cause the editor to advice against it. Which is understandable. If you start out as comedy, shifting to a darker tone is possible, but has to be done carefully for it to work out. Considering this was supposed to be a short, one volume work from a beginner mangaka, I can understand the editor had doubts whether the author could pull it off in only a few chapters.

In the end, even the author seems to realize it was for the best, so that's good.

also, it seems it was less an axe and more a planned short serialization to begin with. The rushed feeling probably comes from the author still being a beginner and having trouble with pacing and such. Hopefully, this will serve as a good experience and their next work will flow better ^^

I thought Axe-kun got the series but it looks like, this was always meant to be a one volume series.. I’m happy for the Author!

As far of extra chapters goes, this one is really high up there! comedy, casual stuff, is long too, author commentary, colored pages and KISS.
It would've been glorious with a glimpse of the future but oh well, this is fine

Code pendent ending what does that even mean . Lmao
But alas I like the ending so that's okay
If only the author will make another extra chapter where Hikaru became a rich love master... or pass forward to future where kairi became a office woman and Hikaru became a regular staff in Reo's family store. 🤧
Codependent ending would mean that the 2 protagonists effectively don't function as independent people without the other in the room. Like Hikaru unable to deal with failure without Kairi's "comfort" or Kairi taking her frustrations out on Hikaru by bringing her lower. Each relies on the other for an emotional crux they can't satisfy by themselves.

As an example of codependency, try "RWBY". Nora and Ren are directly stated to be codependent to the point Nora says "Nora doesn't know who she is without Ren". She has no idea of her own individuality because it's so tied to her partner being with her.
