Thanks for the notes but i prolly won't pay attention to the technical stuff XD but i wonder if the JP side of the audience are really into this arc

'come as a set' unless i was really passionate if i had a sibling, i wouldn't necessarily wanna do the same thing, ppl would either see us as a duo or try to make us compete (and i guess it makes sense there wouldn't really be separation from age but i'd think there wouldn't be many 16 year olds that'd win against a 45 year old player assuming he's been doing it all is life)

Cool that he wasn't discouraged by the loss

atleast read it anyway. :qq: i also think like that at first like,
"nah i dont think i need to understand the entirety of shogi to translate this. even if i did some mistranslation it wont really matter; west ppl wont understand better anyway"

but then i saw a glimpse of the next many chapters and oh boy the drama in this arc is SO EXCITING and shogi is, literally, a big part of shotaro's growth so i tried really hard to learn it and provide the basic context at LEAST... so please read it even you dont understand :nyoron:. thanks

(i kinda learn it rather seriously because i see takanashi also learn shogi to understand shotaro, tee hee)
(it's really hard to not giving yourself a spoiler when u do translation :fml: i hate spoilers so much hhhrhrhhrhrhr)

the direct translation is literally "you both are a couple" and i kinda want to add that BUT i dont want some sicko to think i ship a domestic, stern, diciplined, yapper younger brother with his calm, carefree, laid-back, and nonchalant older brother  also they looks like they truly do care for each other

Cool that he wasn't discouraged by the loss
u sure that aint a freezing cold, empty stare, lowkey in the brink-of-insanity-smile? :haa:

I did, but it may as well be calculus to me. maybe if i had a pro teacher who taught me while i was playing the game itself, would be more immersive than reading it

tho i'm sure there are shogi anime that'd be like card games/other sports anime that'd have some announcer hyping up stuff (i'm sure a lot of ppl learned mahjong for that yakuza game assuming they didn't look up answers/brute force that too)

I know there was an anime about that hanafuda card? tho i think there was an element of shoujo/josei romance to it since the protag was a girl so i imagine some ppl watched it more for that lol

Guess it was a bit manic and might drive him to push himself practicing too hard but i suppose that's slightly better than him being arrogant and in denial and like "no way i lost i was just having an off day" or so lol

But it's cool that the author is properly putting details into it versus using it as like, a metaphor or so (tho it would be hilarious if he? wasn't too experienced himself and roasted by the JP readers for making a mixup or so) I assume it's closer to chess but be hilarious if two pieces were like the weakest and strongest but the JP kanji/charas on them look super similar and caused arguments on the younger crowd about the winners lol

Maybe I am wrong, but I do think he's not really serious enough about Shogi to succeed at higher level.
It's basically a Pro-Sport, where just having the talent and thinking it's fun to play isn't enough.
Of course he might still find the motivation to go all in, but that look at the end seems more like an empty stare.

i've been reading ''march comes like a lion'' for a decade and i have not a fucking clue what shogi is actually about

so yeah, that's the secret about sport manga and tel lasso, it's not about the sport, it's about the friends you made along the way
