Arranged Marriage/Fiance arc huh? Ugh, this is gonna be such a fucking drag. Easily one of the top 3 worst types of arcs in any story ever.

@nal I think it's bad that there is such a variety of "let's force someone to marry someone they don't like" plots in fiction that I don't consider them the same plot.

I mean, Oboro's boss and Tengu girl tried the classic "Let's kidnap someone and don't free them until they marry me", which everyone agrees is a crime and makes them ready to fight for great justice. But what I see here is another classic, the "Let's pressure someone into marrying for the good of the family", which for some reason is socially acceptable even if the implications are basically the same (it's just that it's your own family who takes you hostage, not a third party).

Why is this trope still a thing? There's only two ways an arranged marriage ends in manga & light novels:

1. The heroine actually does get married to mr Whoever Whatshisface, fanbase is outraged, series dies.
2. The heroine doesn't get married, and the experience strengthens the bond between her and the protagonist. However in the meanwhile, readers get bored of an overused cliche that only serves the role of a filler.

Just stop. It's dead already. Put it out of it's misery.

I seriously doubt this is anything more than a bait-n-switch.

It's likely just a ploy to get Kogarashi more involved with Sagiri. Using an obvious playboy virgin- who likely has a fascination/crush/admiration for Nonko, the oni woman- to incite feelings of jealousy from Kogarashi. Grandma uses underhanded tactics and no matter how strong this new guy is, he's no where near Kogarashi's level.

The idea @Darkangel9357 proposed may be accurate, but considering how this story typically rolls, Grandma really wouldn't mind both girls getting a slice of Kogarashi. He's that strong.

I really hope it won't be Stopping Marriage arc because this manga did it 2 times already and they were done decently, because characters (1st Yuuna, 2nd Kogarashi) wanted to be saved from it. With Sagiri it reminds me shittiest arc of Nisekoi, which basically ruined manga for everyone (Raku saved Marika with stupid: "because we are friends" shit.

@Misticsan I don't have anything to add about the unfortunate direction this manga is taking, but I thought I'd throw out some info regarding arranged marriages in Japan. Just as an aside, my first host family in Japan was a couple in their fifties, & they had an arranged marriage.

So, in Japan today somewhere between 6 & 10% of all marriages are arranged, in contrast to pre-WWII when nearly 70% were.
