I was wondering why guys who try to pick up girls on the street are always depicted as borderline rapists and never like normal people in anime. Aside for the fact their rejection is inevitable, they never stop to mere flirting; they will instantly flip to insults and physical aggression as soon as they will be denied.
Then the realization suddenly hit me: it's because of the target audience.
Socially inept otaku have a fierce hate for anyone who's confident enough to approach a girl on the street because they will never be able to do the same, so in their dreams and fantasies these people will always be the rude villains and the MC (which works as their self-insert) will need to be the hero who comes in and teaches them the lesson they totally deserve, getting the girl's gratitude and love in the process.
