It seems a bit weird to us, who can look at this from an outsiders perspective, but to her, thats still her best (read: only) friend for a long time, so shes likely internally rationalizing it away. This happens often to victims or domestic abuse, you see them try to excuse what their abusers did in ways that any observer would find bizzare ("i did x thing so i deserve to be hit", "it wasnt that bad", "theyre not usually like this" are common examples). I imagine something similar is happening for our mc, and will keep happening until sakine crosses a line.
