So far Sakine is the one with the worst personality among everyone, yet
she
has 2 people liking her. The author is not doing a great job at showing us why people like her
I guess Mafuyu only saw her surface, while Hibiki is way back. And well, Sakine was a sweet girl, until something happened that made her manipulative now. You guess it right, Hibiki was the cause lol.

Was that "I love you" translation accurate? If so this author is messy as fuck lol
So certain languages dont really say a direct translation of "I love you" like in Japan it would be aishiteru 愛してる but its not a common practice to use that specific wording unless youre like married. So more than likely they said something like "i like you" daisuki 大好き, a more common phrasing Japanese people say. This goes for both platonic and romantic love so you know, could clearly be taken advantage of to be turned around to be "as a friend though right" like Sakine did :dogkek:

Thats why for a lot of localisations to make sure the viewers know the intent and meaning behind of the person saying it, they'll translate the daisuki or whatever as "i love you" if they mean it romantically

One could argue for using the Japanese word, like keeping honorifics, or at least putting a TL note in the margins indicating what the original word is. If the source is inherently ambiguous, it's not doing any favors to translate to something that seems more specific.

I'm going to reiterate what I've said elsewhere here. In the raws, Mafuyu said 「好きよ」, which can be interpreted as, in this context, either "I like you" or "I love you!"

Either one would be technically accurate and an acceptable translation. She also says 「私佐倉さんが好きよ」 which is translated as, again "I like/love you, Sakura-san."

The reason why I chose love specifically is because Sakine doesn't feel the same way, and turns her down with an "I like you too, Mafuyu-chan," which, in my opinion, makes it obvious that she doesn't mean it in the same way. In the original JP, this can be ambiguous for both of them, but I personally chose "love" for Mafuyu because it sounds stronger next to Sakine's "like," even though the actual word 好き can mean either.

This is just the way I interpreted it, though. It could just as well be translated as "I like you, Sakura-san" and it would work in context too. I just thought the contrast between their feelings being expressed in such a way would be nice.

This gets even worse when you remember that there were hints of Mafuyu also having developed feelings for Chiyoko. So not only has she been friendzoned by her crush and then asked to play the wingman for her, but the person she's supposed to hook Sakine up with is her other (potential) crush.

At this point, really only a polycule can save them.

So Mafuyu likes Sakine, Sakine like Chiyoko, and Chiyoko likes Mafuyu?

Then later you will learn that Hibiki is still not over Sakine.
Later? What do you mean later? She's been obsessed with her ever since her appearance

I mean it doesn't look very clear at least to me. It could just be the obsession because of hatred, like she wanted to ruin her relationship. It's actually both.

Sakine is cunning fox, but I empathize with her motives. She's in love with Chiyoko, and right now, everyone is a potential threat for her. That includes Mafuyu, even though she knows she's in love with her and i'm pretty sure she suspect that she is in love with Chiyoko too, It's just that she's not aware of it yet and wants to make sure that feeling doesn't blossom. Even her ex seems interested in Chiyoko. And frankly, it's not entirely her fault; it was her ex who made her this way. Although she shows signs of being sorry and wanting to fix things.

How anyone could ever like or wants to be friends with Sakine is one of the worlds biggest mysteries…

After looking at 14.1 I just think I am done with this…
