I've been getting tablets since middle school in my district. They aren't ipads and you can't download certain things but it has everything for school on it like progress reports, notes app, homework portal,etc. You have to pay a $200 deposit that they give back at the end of the year if you return it undamaged.

Mine gave out "free" (paid for with taxes, most likely) Chromebooks that we had to give back intact (not broken) by the end of our stay in the high school with the box it originally came in.
