I think both of you are reading a little too much into it. Sex work in general has always been looked down upon, and thankfully people are working toward bettering that mind set over the recent years. Sometimes people become sex workers because they actually enjoy it, it doesn't always have to be seen in a negative light and I think the mangaka is just showing us what a good dude he is but not caring whatever her reasoning is, negative or positive.
Sex workers who do it because they enjoy it is fine. Sex workers being forced into it through debt, drugs, or slavery/human trafficking is absolutely not.

I say let people do what they enjoy and let people enjoy what they pay for, as long as no one is being harmed or forced in the process, even by proxy (someone's partner cheating on them with a sex worker or being addicted to porn is harmful to them)

I'm seeing a lot of protagonists praising/defending prostitution in Japanese media lately. It felt unique at first, but it's becoming oddly common. I wonder if Japan's awful dating/relationship/sex situation is fueling this spreading stance.
I’m in the opinion of “reject prudes, embrace sluts”. We should legalize and regulate the world’s oldest occupation.

These character's design is ridiculous. Especially the woman with two big flowers in her head. It stands out too much

I mean yeah that goes without saying all I was pointing regardless of the reason they do it they should be treated with respect and not seen disgusting or lesser then anyone else because of said occupation. Which is what I think this chapter was trying say at the end of the day. Which honestly good on mangaka way to often are people worried about the purity of the the person and it can get pretty demeaning.

I might set the thread on flame with this, and I'm very sorry but as much as japaneese media are trying to portray prostitution as a respectful and admirable profession I really can't think such. I normally would never write it but given how many mangakas are now obsessed with prostitutes and slaves and lolis i just couldn't hold it anymore.

As always, start by hunting rats. Unless it's slimes. Spears are great as far as melee weapons go for hunting.

Combat poses on page 6 are crap.

Yeah, he really is crap, so it kinda makes sense. But he's kinda dumb thinking that learning spearmanship from an actual sentient spear is a ridiculous idea.

He's talking about grip as if you're using one hand or two hands on the same spot, and implies a much more static grip, which isn't generally how you use a spear. It just overall feels like it's written by someone who hasn't even looked into how you use a spear in combat.

Mercenary guild receptionist looks like a mercenary guild receptionist. I kinda like that they just call it mercenary guild rather than adventurer's guild, even if it's functionally the same thing in this case.

Katanas aren't actually particularly thin. They're actually kind of heavy for their length.

No touchy unless you pay for it.

Saying he's bleeding, have a panel that indicates he's bleeding, but not actually showing it in that panel. What kind of crap is that?

Silver Flash. Srsly. Such an original name. What's next, a black catgirl named Kuro? A merc group called Crimson Fang?

Oh, yes, such penalty. But it fits the "crime".

Yeah, it's the standard "think about the person, not the profession's reputation" thing. Generally I'd say that you should never look down on the actual workers; it's the management that's the shady part. You know, like in almost every other case.

Needs harem tag. This is a harem.
Not yet. But probably at least a pseudo-harem, although he's certainly looking into a real harem.

World's oldest occupation is farmer or hunter
I'm thinking forager/scavenger is older than that.

Scavenger is not an occupation. Everyone can do that. It's a side activity or desperate attempt. And a farmer already exist with the proof the child of adam is doing farming. And another child is raising a barn. The first human already have that knowledge

Regarding the sex work debate the usual it's been around since who knows and the live and let live and let people do and work how they want stuff. I always find these odd defenses, especially given someone in the chat already pointed out how rewarding promiscuity and debauchery can and does harm a society by way of harming lasting relationships which also harms society by way of destroying family structures, raising children properly, etc. which, guess what = harming and ultimately destroying society because it opens the door to other loose ways of thinking about morality, traditions, etc. that were the framework of a stable society. This comes in different ways but the defense of something like sex work and to include legalizing drugs for various reasons, although that's not the issue here, these defenses are always made to allow these things while ignoring any residual problems they bring to the table or any problems around these subcultures.

Someone brought up sex-trafficking, legalized sex work does not stop it. In fact, some have argued on these forums better than I can with data that legalizing sex work actually helps strengthen the dark side of the subculture and the illegal activity heightens. Same with legalizing drugs. Same with legal alcohol (plenty of minors still manage to get their hands on it despite that being illegal, plenty of drunk drivers still kill people. for example) which goes to my point about defenders ignoring the residual effects these activities have on society and how legalizing them or putting them in a positive light will heighten the negative effects these activities have.

I came here because like @LordofLeechers, I was curious what the conversation would be around this chapter since I agree, there seems to be a collection of Japanese authors trying to defend prostitution through their MC's.

Not so much birth rates or dating, and moreso the rise of Vtubers, e-thots, onlyfans, etc. The dating scene is actually much worse today as a result from this type of culture and not really better for it. Obviously, when promiscuity is rewarded, it affects the ability to have lasting relationships.
Yup, plus you have statistics showing that the more sex partners one has had before marriage, the MUCH more likely you are to divorce after 5 years of marriage.
