Consider it a sort of 'honor among thieves'. Yeah, there are some that abuse the rule to make some money, something that's kinda against the rules themselves and actual laws, but the code does have some meaning and benefit. If something is still being translated just fine, I'd rather a new translator jump into something else rather than having 5 different groups competing over the same series because it's popular while we barely see anything new or different.

still, the point is that we had too much fighting over the same mainstream series before so we needed some agreed upon rules and, regardless of if you think it's ridiculous, it isn't a bad thing. Honestly, whatever gets more decent translations is fine and I'm not even complaining about this case since they do a lot of different ones already. It's just that there is a benefit to translators 'sticking to their turf'.

Got serious Tenchi Muyo War on Geminar vibes... I should rewatch it again.

Was just thinking that too since I just finished a rewatch of the series last month. Still holds up pretty well and most of the 'cultural imports' even some of the sexy ones are played for laughs. God I wish there was a Blu-Ray re-release for it, definitely could use it and my only complaint about the series besides no sequel. Who even owns the home video rights for it?
