This is one of the few manga where the "hero" not only realizes his mistake and wants to amend things, but also the whole party knows pretty well how shitty they all where... usually is only one of the group at most that does this. Even with the unbelievable setting, this is surprisingly well written, is not a masterpiece mind you, but is better than many of the other "betrayed MC that is actually really powerful" type of stories.

When I look at those people I only see immature 12 year old children that don't know what they're doing instead of assholes

Also, Zekt doesn't Really like Mel it seems, he just swoon her to feel superior over Ceres, he figured they had something going on between them (necklace thing) but Zekt didn't knew Ceres was actually aiming from the start for her mom and doesn't really care romantically about Mel.
