It's not "I", but " he". "Even though he's usually reluctant to help". It's talking about the son helping her prepare the food. The kid seems to usually not like to help out at home.

Yeah, it's not "baldy", but "(I hope you) go bald!!" Wishing for someone to go bald is a common thing to say in manga as a more polite way to cuss out someone.From what I understand, "baldy" can be used as an "old man" slur whether they are balding or not.
Apparently in the UK calling a man bald in the workplace is sexual harassment equivalent to comments about a woman's breast size...
