Just a cursory look at the big picture makes the whole situation seem fishy, what would a mermaid need a bunch of human cargo for anyways? why bring the cargo to some cove and stash it on land and not underwater? Who was the suspicious man who conveniently happened to see the mermaid and cargo but apparently didn't tell anyone else?
