Do remember he wears the mask and such because he was one of the demon lord's subordinates that traumatized the "Heroes" who went to subdue them. Yes there is some chuuni aspects as well, but it's mostly so he doesn't get recognized while acting like the fool he is.

You aren't remembering it quite correctly. He joined the guild using his own face, perfectly normally. He only ripped off his demon horn and wings to make his demonic background invisible. He stopped doing quests using his own face when Cecilia asked him to do it, because he's so powerful (basically equal to an S-rank) that he would soon enough gain international attention. So, he started randomly doing it under that ridiculous guise. Of course he himself thinks it's cool, but others probably think it's goofy, which wouldn't exactly encourage anyone to approach him.

Not that many humans would have seen his demon visage anyway. He was the last demon before the demon lord himself, so basically you'd have needed to be a hero to reach that far. And he almost never left the castle. The hero party wouldn't even have that bad an impression of him. He never killed or maimed them, obviously, so they always kept coming back. Finally he allowed them to pass and go defeat the demon lord. Aside from Cecily who was left behind, but whom they found in perfect health later. The magician, Mikana, even noticed what was going on. So, nobody who matters recognises Youki's face for who he really is.

He wears a mask to hide his identity while adventurering. The event that inspired this was running into the Hero's party at the guild. Which checks with what both of us have said.

As for the chuuni aspect, it's because he is totally suffering from 5th grader syndrome. The mask brings that part of him to the surface any time he wears it. He even says as much in multiple chapters.

So I'm not sure what you are trying to correct about my statement.

Well a compromise I can think of is having Teal working as a guild staff, probably receptionist. While she won't be joining him, at least she won't be in dangerous situation and get more chances to meet him.

that's actually a terrible idea if you think about it. the moment people hear her calling him guardian god-sama everyone will start looking down on gai and call him a creepy pervert that makes little girls call him god. the moment that happens gai will be forced back into the sponger lifestyle he just so barely managed to escape from.
