Tbh, idk? It's been 3 months and I can't believe myself ever saying that... since I did anyway, it's probably something worst.

@Turkeyjerkey You realize that these stories are often just web novels that were written for fun, right? And people just want quick cheap entertainment that's not heavy.... it's like enjoying chips or soda...

I don't understand why you'd even care what other people are enjoying? And fiction at it's core is just wish fulfillment anyways.

Alright. Here’s the deal here. We like cute cat girls. Author sees this. We like this type of premise. Author sees this. He/she combines it and you guys start bitching about it like it’s hellspawn. Chill, take it for what it is, or get out. This is how manga, and entertainment in general is.

Doing literally anything is just wish fulfillment. The only thing that wouldn't be is just sitting still until you starve to death. The element of wish-fulfillment I don't like here is specifically the self-insert aspect. Lazy authors just slap together a blank slate mary sue with no personality and ask us to project onto them. Not every work needs a complex lead, but the appeal here is specifically aimed at having you imagine you're the protagonist while he becomes super powerful and girls throw themselves at him. It's patronizing and boring.

Stories like this didn't use to bother me, but the more good stuff I read and the more interested in storytelling I became, the more aggravating I began to find them. You don't get anything out of them and you'll forget you ever read them a week after the last chapter. It bugs me because it's like watching a bunch of people eat slop out of a pig trough whole there's a perfectly good steak on the table next to them. There are tons of much better, much more imaginative works with light tones out there if you're not in the mood for something heavy. There are better uses of your time.

@Turkeyjerkey But it's not nearly as bad as you're claiming it to be... part of it is just your direct hate for it making it seem worse...

These are fine stories. Not the best, but not really so bad that you should curse them. And when you read them, it's pretty obvious what kind of story it is, so you can easily avoid it and read stuff that you like.

There is so much fiction out there in the wild. So instead of complaining that people like something you don't, just go enjoy what you want. It's not like you're forced to read this....

I dropped countless series that I couldn't stand myself.

If this was something harmful or something, I'd understand... but it's just people harmlessly enjoying fiction they want to read. To try and shame them for that just feels wrong....

Oh I'm well aware that I'm not being forced to read this. I skimmed the chapters, saw a girl pledge to be his slave and immediately dropped it. I've been around the block enough times to identify exactly what kind of story this is.

You're free to enjoy this, but that doesn't make it immune to criticism. In the same you way you say no one is forcing me to read this, no one is forcing you to read my comments. I'm well within my rights to express my distaste for it. Part of having a comments section means there will be people who aren't fans expressing their opinions.

As for these being "fine" stories, let me just say that the standards for writing in anime, manga, and jrpgs are abysmally low. There are great works out there, but they are few and far between. This story is not fine, every single one of its plot points is lifted directly from other series that were terrible to begin with. This is juvenile, fan fiction tier writing.

As for harm, you are correct. The only real "harm" It's doing is taking up people's time. Time they could be using to experience a much better work.

@Turkeyjerkey That's actually funny, since we both dropped this series at the exact same moment...

But besides that, what you are doing is just sh*tting on this series for no reason. You already know you wouldn't like this series, even if you were giving it a chance. So there is no reason for needless negativity.

By bashing it for pretty much no reason, you are being mean to the people that actually do enjoy it. It's like the people that bash SAO or Twilight, even though there is no good reason to bash it other than to make the people that enjoy it feel bad for no reason.

And let's be real... any type of fiction, whether it's good or bad could be considered a waste of time. But that's up to the person who used the time. If they enjoyed themselves, then it wasn't a waste.

The covers seem to indicate more waifus coming to the story, so I'll put this manga on my to read list. So far MC is likeable, art is good and storyline hasn't done anything to make me hate it.

Bad, nonsensical story. Too many plot holes and ridiculous interactions between people.

@xeno77 lmao.

This is basically the same as a bunch of other manga that have a complete ripoff (so far, through chapter 7) of the manga "I Was Kicked out of the Hero’s Party Because I Wasn’t a True Companion so I Decided to Have a Slow Life at the Frontier".

Basically, the party thinks that he's dead weight so they kick him, then almost immediately run into some trouble because he was secretly holding the whole party together with his efforts that they didn't notice.

Basically, seems like revenge-porn for the salaryman who got fired recently. The manga that it ripped off is actually pretty good, although I'm not sure if that one or this other series called "I Was Dismissed from the Hero’s Party Because They Don't Need My Training Skills, so I Strengthened My [Fief] Which I Got as a Replacement for My Retirement Money" came first. The one that it (probably) ripped off has a very similar setup, but the Training Skills one seems more like a guy who gave a company/startup all he could, and they didn't really need him anymore, which he's made peace with, so he goes and starts his own business (figuratively). Rather than being about actual direct revenge or revenge-porn it's more like living well is the best revenge? I just said revenge a lot lmao.

Personally the other two are better than this one so far, although this one could get better, it's not like some of the edgy ones where the hero got betrayed and is trying to burn the kingdom to the ground or something. Those I feel like you have to be in a certain, vindictive, mood for.
