The dude always ends up being op in a non-standard way, that they only discover/recognize/exploit for themselevd after they were "banished" from the party.

Like yeah, it is kinda boring to make him actually OP when the point was that he WASN'T yet his emotional and strategical prowess helped him actually be irreplaceable (which is similar to many other series actually, but that's besides the point), but having actually unexplored potential for growth as something to follow at this point feels fair, with the narrative he has about learning to be confident in his traits
