This "Evasion Defender Tanker" is useless in a small somewhat novice party. By evading the monster, that monster then might attack the other party members. In a large party, evasion defender might be viable, but in a small party, it is too dangerous to the other party members.

Besides monsters, an evasion defender cannot block missile weapons or other thrown objects. Those objects or arrows then go on to hit the other party members. Thus, an evasion defender, when in a party, is very similar to a coward that dumps monsters and missile attacks onto the other party members.

Evasion tanks can work provided they can keep aggro (games usually have taunt-type skills to help with this), and that they must be good enough to keep the boss facing a certain direction away from the squishy party members, ideally keeping the boss in place. Keep the boss facing one general direction and dodge attacks limited to an area within the chosen direction.

That said, the DPS should also position themselves smartly, and attack ideally from behind the boss, from its blind spot or at the very least not in front of it. Unless it's a game that for some reason forces the party to be bunched together in one spot, there shouldn't be any rules dictating that damage dealers and healers must always stand behind the tank in front of the boss. Healers can be located at the side so both the tank and DPS are within easy range of healing spells and buffs. Everything hinges on the tank holding aggro, keeping the boss tunnel-visioned in one general direction.

But the thing is, they're rookies and evasion tanks are usually experienced (players) members. What does this maverick party that's missing one member do that sets it apart from the others?
