Thing is, he was genuinely shocked and horrified when Lloyd pointed out what would have happened had he not blocked that attack. And i'd say the king is more than just some power-hungry maniac. He was completely willing to put his life on the line to kill Lloyd instead of constantly throwing more minions after him. So he must believe Lloyd is a serious threat if he's willing to take matters into his own hands and potentially die like that.
I dunno... I think he piloted the beast himself because HE wants the power, not anybody else. You have to think back to WHY he wants to eliminate Lloyd in the first place; because Lloyd is powerful enough to be a threat to the kingdom, and since he can't directly control Lloyd, Lloyd's existence is a threat. The king only used Cain because there was a fail safe to ensure Cain's absolute obedience. (BTW whatever happened to that fail safe... ?) So maybe the king is acting from a place of utmost caution, trying to ensure there are no powerful forces not under his direct control, but the way he's acted and carried on, I don't think that's the case.

Advisor(on her own initiative) visit Lloyd and family in their home, asking for mercy; while explaining that king survived the fight and animosity is king and king alone. Also the whole fight was perceived as 'Hero Lloyd successfully defend capital against unknown enemy' and his rep is back on positive again (if it was revealed that it was the royalty, it would not end well for the kingdom). The 'artificial hero project' apparently waste a lot of capital's funds so there won't be another hero for foreseeable future.
Lloyd's family consider whether king will try anything stupid again (advisor strongly pleaded to not kill the king, since if a royalty of a superpower nation is killed, it would affect the whole world) so Sophie summon the King straight from capital to their mansion. While still recuperating from his injury.
Lloyd considered to end the king there because a lot of things; but Cain interject that while indeed the hero program hurt so much, it is because of that Cain managed to survived and meet Lloyd again. If she never enter the program, she will surely die. Lloyd also mused that he quit trying to imagine what he would do if he is not a hero, since because of being hero (with all the baggages) he met his (misfit)family.
So Lloyd decided to let this one slide since all 3 do, but he strongly warn the King that from now on if he ever decide to aim for his family again; it would be free real estate of fist sandwich labeled 'death'

Nah I disagree with this take. I think the reason he's doing it personally is because he's too paranoid and power hungry to entrust the power to anyone else. The idea that he's doing it himself so that he doesn't put his servants/people in danger doesn't make sense to me.
Can you explain why you think that's the case? I haven't seen anything from the king, in terms of words or actions, that would suggest that he cares about other people. Everything I've seen convinces me he only cares about himself.
It stops being self-defense once the other party is either fleeing or unable to fight. Once there is no longer clear and present danger, self-defense can no longer apply.
And again, it's about how THEY would feel about it. Lloyd might be able to, but I seriously doubt anyone else could steel their emotions to actually kill him. That's not self-defense, that's an execution.
Unlike escaping Iraqi troops on a clogged highway,air striking the king won't prevent future hostile forces from regrouping,but the king is most certainly not going to be ruling much longer,considering the huge costs he definitely incurred with no oil resources to justify it.

It's super weird because we didn’t get any indication why the king was so paranoid over Lloyd, he pretty much was made into a super soldier never questioning the king, so why take him out?? then he sents him into a possible death but instead they are just doing family business while resolving his shit, like in what moment has he ever been a threat, his emotions were pretty much destroyed so he could have been made even an assasin by the king.

see this is what i hate when japan try to pull these revenge stories they raise the stakes to the max and create the most utterly unsatisfying conclusions. this king did so much crap they made him so fucking dispicable where you ACTIVELY ROOT FOR HIS DEATH and then they end it off by giving the fucker the equivalent of a slap on the wrist. seriously if you can't write a satisfying conclusion to a revenge plot then don't write one at all.
it doesn't matter if Lloyd and Cain benefited from the hero program they are just two people. what about the countless others who suffered who lost their loved ones for nothing. so we are just gonna handwave that like its nothing. we just gonna let the king continue on his merry way with no consequences for all the pain and misery he inflicted. THEY OWE THE KING NOTHING. this would ONLY hold merit if killing the king would change the past and make it so the hero experiments never happened. otherwise regardless of whether or not the king is alive Lloyd, and Cain still have their family and they are still alive.

I'm basing it in the fact that a king of an entire country has attempted multiple times to murder an innocent man (and his family) in cold blood, even when that man has shown no signs of hostility or retaliation. From his actions shown, there is no reasonable reason to believe he won't come back again to kill everyone with a new weapon.
