It's a bit out of the blue, but it's a semi-common trope in gag manga about magic schools (at least I know I've seen it a few times before). It's basically just the fantasy equivalent of a chapter where characters decide to play a random game for a gag that goes on for a few chapters too many. I'm not much a fan of them typically, but oh well.
