I'd welcome anyone that has read the original source to chime in and tell me what for, but I'm willing to hazard a guess that Lloyd and Iblis will "meet in the middle" somewhat in terms of their emotional output. I can't point to any direct evidence from these three chapters themselves, but the way the gears in my head turn in understanding the narrative is Lloyd needs to (re)discover his own emotions, as well as Iblis could probably do well to bring her own under more control.
